Context: ADP Datacloud leadership listened to users and invested in bolstering its leading benchmark analytics tool with a stronger feature set and new UI.
ADP’s Expectations: The goal was to deliver to clients a powerful update to the 1.0 version of the tool as had been requested.
Design Process: I met with our compensation subject matter expert in sprint zero to understand the new requirements. We determined the existing app structure would remain, and so wireframing needs were limited to the new integration accents. I researched various data visualizations and found no out-of-the-box solution would work for our needs. I conceptualized and sketched the concept of “You Versus the Benchmark,” a different approach than the Product Owner had envisioned, but one that put the focus on the user and the best experience they could hope to gain from the tool. I designed UI and presented designs and the expected experience to the development team. I created an Invision prototype to map out the experience and worked closely with the development and QA teams to make sure the intent was followed and UI was pixel-perfect.
Measuring Success: The Annual Compensation Explorer remains the most used and most important benchmarking tool ADP DataCloud offers, and the update was needed to stay in line with clients’ evolving needs. An unveiling at a Client Advisory Board meeting was a huge success, and ADP was rewarded with several design patents for my work.
